Is it possible to find your soulmate through a shared IMDb watchlist? From a childhood obsession with the macabre to adult fixations on Winchester brothers and witty sociopaths, these are the series that did more than just entertain, they defined a personality. If you recognize yourself in these ten picks, we might just be destined for friendship.
The Screen-Time DNA
They say you are what you eat, but if you ask me, you are what you binge. My relationship with television started early, fueled by the thrill of staying up past my bedtime and a healthy dose of “avant-garde” curiosity. Over the years, my taste has morphed into a specific blend of the supernatural, the deeply emotional, and the brilliantly enigmatic. Whether it’s a two-season masterpiece that leaves you grieving or a fifteen-season epic that feels like home, some shows simply stick to your ribs. Here is (after Kate’s last week) a look at the 10 shows that have occupied my screen, -and my heart-, the most.
First thing I remember about this show is that I wasn’t allowed to watch it, so I had to sneak around, hide, pretend I was asleep on the couch, etc.
Then, this show means the beginning of me being, like my mom says (in despair), an “everything corpses fan”. Macabre, I know, but I am no exception to all these women watching murder docu series to calm down, I just began very early (10 yo), I was an “avant gardiste” little girl if I may say so myself. Of course I have to add, my crush on Kyle McLachlan aka agent Cooper, and the way – weird for my young age- David Lynch’s cinematographic language spoke to me.

It may be my fav show of all. I have been a fan of Sherlock since I was very young when there was an animated dog version, mind you, by the greats Kyousuke Mikuriya et Hayao Miyazaki, on French TV (around 1984). There was a Watson and of course a Moriarty.
In this version starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and the Oh so perfect Andrew Scott, what I love the most is that whatever number of criminal shows you’ve watched in your life, how many enigmas you figured out in cases etc, there is no way you can figure out what the plot is gonna be. It was so refreshing, and still is, because 16 years later, the memory faded and rewatching the (only) 13 episodes feels like the first time. Except for some unforgettable catch phrases such as: “I’m a high functioning sociopath” or “Brainy is the new sexy”.

I’ve started this show 20 years after it first aired. I knew about it of course but even though I am drawn to anything supernatural, fantastic etc, I never gave it its chance. So here I am, in 2025, following the Winchester brothers, falling in love with Dean (who did not ?), enjoying the incredible music used for each episode. This show has everything I love: monsters, so nicely written characters (that actually evolve with time), so much fun, and yet so much drama, and of course perfect plots.
Since then I’ve rewatched the 15 seasons (the longest for this genre) of the show and it gets better every time, discovering details, easter eggs here and then.

Well, father, it never did. I will never get over that show or over Phœbe Waller-Bridge writing. For only two seasons (not a single minute needed to be added to this perfect story), Fleabag has the impact of shows that you watched your whole life. Because she (Fleabag, since we never learn her name) feels so close to home (“Nobody asked me a question in 45 minutes”: most accurate line in a show I’ve ever heard), her relationship to her sister is such a beautiful ode to siblings, everything is so very measured and just. Sometimes a few traits are exaggerated of course, often men, because they are exaggerated beings after all, so…
Bottom line, Fleabag is not a show you summarize or pitch to someone, just watch it and you’ll understand.

Another comfort show, another group that feels like they are your best friends. New girl is nothing more than a girl, Jessica, looking to find an apartment in L.A with roommates after a bad breakup. She dresses like a 60’s grandma, sings too much (if there’s such a thing), she cries over pictures of puppies in cups, she is way too enthusiastic about things and yet whether it is you viewer or her 3 (guy) roomates, people just want to protect this little thing. Talking about her three roommates: Nick Miller, Schmidt and Wilson, they may be the funniest characters of TV history, don’t come at me I said what I said. And there’s Cece of course, the best friend, the opposite of Jess, yet her perfect friendship match.

Being a woman comedian in 2026 is not easy (will anything be someday?), but imagine in the late 50’s. This is what Midge is living, at the beginning even a little against her will. Dumped by her husband for his secretary (a first in history), she ends up in an open mic bar, drunk and starts telling jokes that actually make people laugh out loud. It is the very beginning of the New York stand up scene. Some characters like Lenny Bruce, was real, as real as the patriarchy was heavy on a woman’s shoulder at that time.
If you like fine humor, beautiful styling, New York and shows that actually have a good ending, you should definitely watch Mrs Maisel.

Lee Pace. My paragraph should stop here, but I’m gonna tell you more anyway.
My brother calls it: “the show where she is her own mother”. And he is not very far from the truth. Foundation is an adaptation of a 5 novels series by Isaac Asimov published between 1942 and 1944 to become one book in 1951. This absolute “avant-garde” story, one of a kind fiction, requires your full attention, for it jumps through time (or even times), approaches the concept of cloning in a very philosophical way, has a hundred characters all fully developed in their, oh so complex, writings. In one word: masterpiece.

I could have chosen Criminal Minds here, but the SVU, after 27 seasons, has kept this stability, even though the cast changes a lot, the pillars are still there. Criminal Minds let go of too many of the main characters and drifted after season 15.
Back to SVU (Special Victims Unit), well, it is your perfect crime show, it fits any season, any time, any mood and never disappoints.

Before Jacob and Edward, before Eric Northman and Bill or even Buffy’s Angel, there was Anne Rice’s Lestat and Louis, your ultimate toxic vampire couple. Set in New Orleans, home town of the author, these two bring us with them in their “je t’aime, moi non plus” relationship for centuries. The AMC+ show, launched 4 years ago, first gave me some doubts: who could replace the perfect Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Kirstent Dunst (playing Claudia, their adoptive baby vampire) in these roles? Well, the answer was: the extraordinary Sam Reid, the excellent Jacob Anderson and the so promising Delainey Hayles. Season 3, corresponding to the book “The Vampire Lestat”, where the platinum blond vampire becomes a rock star, airs in a few weeks; just enough time for you to catch up on season 1 and 2.

I had to add it. Of course I still had room for other shows, but this one is one of the best memories I have with my grandmother. We’d sit after lunch, sing along with the soundtrack and wait for Victor’s and Nikki’s new drama, vent about Jack Abott and his villainous plans, criticize Sharon outfits and it was just the best. Just for that, I’ll keep on watching ‘till I am 83, just like her.
